This Thanksgiving, Feeding America is asking Americans nationwide to donate as little as $1 to help provide struggling families with a comforting meal. With each dollar, the organization pledges to give 8 meals to eligible families, usually consisting of hard-working adults, children and elderly who are forced to go without food for days.
With 1 in 6 Americans affected by hunger, Feeding America works hard year round to supply food to low-income individuals and families. With the support of corporations such as Kraft and the assistance of government programs, they have been able to successfully provide such families with the grocery products they need.
If a monetary donation is not enough, you can begin a food drive in your neighborhood and send donations to a local Feeding America food bank. Start a drive anywhere from your school or workplace to your apartment building. Be sure to highlight the most needed items such as canned foods, peanut butter and packaged foods such as cereal and macaroni and cheese.
If you feel you are in need of food this Thanksgiving, find out if you are an eligible food stamp candidate by calling or visiting your local Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) office. If you need help finding your local SNAP office, you can call the SNAP information line at 1-800-221-5689.
